Threads 53: Two new ideas for hats

Decorated headband
This headband was inspired when I was out in Lake Country BC and saw the cat-tail headbands. I made a couple, but could not work out how to wear them. In the end I attached the cattails to a strip of blanket material and attached the two ends with a knot.  This worked quite well but then I needed to make it more decorative for a party. I had a vase of dried flowers, and some old green leaves attached to a wire. Put them all together and made a flower headband!

Headband for a summer hat
This is a quick and easy way of using three strips of prepared cedar bark and making a three strand braid. Check the length required. Attached the three ends and make a three strand braid. Stitch the ends together and attach it to the hat with a needle and thread.

Silly Hats

A silly photo of two people wearing each others home made basketry hats!

John Sudermann made the birch bark cap and Ankaret made the cedar bark hat.

Has anybody made an interesting hat this summer? Or maybe you have an interesting hat that you have previously made and would like to share it with the readers of the blog. Let us know
