Threads 46: Make your own leather holster

It is extraordinary how elusive the garden snippers can be when out gathering wild grape vines, willow, dogwood, etc. Particularly grape vines, as two hands are often required to pull, and so you set down the clippers on a special obvious place, pull and pull, look for the obvious place and it's now been stepped on, moved by the dogs or plain disappeared.

This holster solves all these problems. It is simply made and was inspired by a knife holster. Luckily I had some old chair leather seating a kind student had given me, but any non-woven strong material would do. As all these garden snippers are different sizes, check the length before cutting out the fabric, or make a mock-up using old sheeting. I stitched mine on the sewing machine, making a double row of stitches for extra strength. Now I am contemplating another style for my lopers, which are awkward to carry, especially when x-country skiing.

P.S. Last week I decided to give myself a new pair of secateurs as my old ones would not stay closed. I discovered that I could get a free holster from Lee Valley Tools when I ordered my new pair! Here is a picture of my new holster, rather stiff and hard but I think it will become softer with use.
